Tips & TricksMowing The mowing height depends on the time of year and the type of turf grass you are cutting. Always raise the mower blade during hot, dry condition, usually when the turf is stressed. Higher cut turf helps avoid drought stress by keeping soil temperatures cooler. Higher mowing also shades out young weeds and certain insects. We recommend 2.5 to 3 inches as standard in proper mowing height. Turf grasses should be mowed frequently enough so that no more than 1/3 of the leaf blade is removed. Scalping or cutting too short weakens the turf grass, making it more susceptible to disease and other stresses.
